This week’s random image is of an abandoned church in Wichita County, Texas. I took this picture as my wife and I passed through town after our 2020 vacation to the Wichita Mountains.

About the Old Church

Abandoned Church in Wichita County, Texas

The old church is located in a small west Texas oil town with a declining population. Originally the church was a Methodist Church that changed to a Pentecostal Church in Wichita County, Texas.

A local woman purchased it at some point, with the intention of restoring it as the town started coming back to life. But the town slowed down again, and the restoration stopped. Then there was a fire that the local fire department was able to quickly put out. Then at some point, the roof caved in. Soon after that, the floor caved in. If you look through the windows you can see the pews sinking into the basement.

About the Image

The picture was taken at about 5 PM in harsh sunlight. I used my Sony a6000 and my Sony SELP18105G E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS lens. The image was then edited with Adobe Lightroom CC, Topaz Labs Denoise AI and Topaz Labs Sharpen AIAurora HDR, and Luminar AI to clean up the image.
