A Lonely Road in the Wichita Mountains

I Took a Few Weeks Off

Its been a couple of weeks since my last article and its time to start working again. Over the last month life has been a bit stressful with my wife being short staffed at work, having another staff member leave, my health issues acting up, and needing to see new doctors the week before we left for our trip. With everything going on, I just didn’t have the time or energy to write articles and process images.  I just had to take a break from writing and concentrate on life.

When vacation started, my wife and I decided to cut back on our tech use. This included random social media scrolling, surfing the web, and watching TV. If you follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or AllTrails (I need more followers, so follow me if you have an account with AllTrails) you will see that I was posting images from vacation and responding to comments. That’s because we made an agreement to only use tech to share our adventures and track them with technology.

A Lonely Road in the Wichita Mountains

We arrived mid afternoon with plans to hike and explore a couple of easy shake down trails in the refuge. uBt our plans changed when the weather changed. We followed the weather up to our trip and brought clothing for cool and hot weather as the forecast said it would be. But, the weather app got it wrong and it was so cold and windy we needed warmer clothing. So the first day we hung out at our AirBnB (my referral code) rental and made plans for the next few days. We decided to check out the refuge and head to the top of Mount Scott for photos and go into town for supplies. Once we got there the clouds were so low we couldn’t see past the edge of the mountain. So we decided to drive around and look for photo opportunities.

We ended up stopping to photograph a lone bison (bison photos coming later) and photograph the mountains from the roadside.

About the Image

The image was shot late afternoon as the wind was blowing hard and the storms coming in. I had some issues get the prairie grasses to stay in focus. I was able to fix some of the issues in post. I used my Sony a6000 using my Sony SELP18105G E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS. The image was then edited with Adobe Lightroom CC and Topaz Labs A.I. Clear  and DXO NIK Collection to clean up the images, remove noise, and recover the lost details.
