This week’s Random Image is of the old Thurber Fire Station that sits between the smoke stack and the old office building. I took this picture back in 2017 as one of my first stops on my West Texas Road Trip.

The Old Thurber Fire Station

The Old Thurber Fire Station

Looking through the historical records I didn’t find any information on the old Thurber Fire Station. I either missed it (it was a late night research project) or isn’t there. That tells me that this building isn’t that old or its a reproduction of the original building. When I got up close to the building,  it’s still very old.

The old fire station’s bay doors are on the smaller side. I think there’s way a fire truck or fire engine of any age will fit. I’m just guessing because the outside decisions are to small to house a fire truck.

It looks like it may have been an old carriage house (we had one of those on one our family properties in Mississippi) but setup to be a fire house with larger carriage bays.

I plan to revisit Thurber in the future and I plan to ask around next time in town to learn more.

About the Image

The image was shot by hand early morning on a sunny day and parts of the building were in the shadows.. I used a Sony A6000 with a Sony SEL16F28 16mm f/2.8 Wide-Angle Lens.  I then edited the images with Adobe Lightroom CC and Topaz Labs Denoise AI and Topaz Labs Sharpen AI and DXO NIK Collection to clean up the image, remove noise, and recover the lost details.
