This week’s random image is of an abandoned church in Mingus, Texas. I took this picture during my July 2017 west Texas road trip.
Abandoned Church in Mingus, Texas
I haven’t found much information on this old church. One person referred to it as the Methodist church in town but no official historical sites refer to it as a Methodist church. At some point, I will have to stop by again and see if I can find a local that knows more.
During my visit, there was construction equipment inside and recent activity. But a friend of mine was there a few months ago and said its in bad shape and looks like its abandoned or at least forgotten now.
About the Image
The image was shot by hand early in morning. I used a Sony A6000 with a Sony SEL16F28 16mm f/2.8 Wide-Angle Lens. The image was then edited using Adobe Lightroom CC and Topaz Labs Denoise AI and Topaz Labs Sharpen AI and DXO NIK Collection to clean up the image, remove noise, and recover the lost details.
Hi James! This Church was built in 1907 I believe by my great great Uncle, John Kern. It is sometimes called the heart of Mingus because from above, it is shaped like a heart.
Thanks, for the information. I’m sending you an email via my personal email.
