Abandoned Farm House Near Decatur, Texas

For the most part, most of the old farm houses from Denton, Texas to Decatur are gone. They have been torn down and new homes have gone up in their place.

As you are driving out to Decatur, the once two lane road is now a 4 lane highway that carved its way through the rural landscape. In its wake, multi-generation farms and ranches disappeared and were replaced with new small and large modern neighborhoods and new commercial ventures. In the next few years, I imagine there won’t be much of the rural landscape left.

I Can’t remember when I first saw this place, but when I first saw it about twenty years ago,  I want to say this old house was still active. The house is in far to good of shape (at least from the front) to have been abandoned for decades.

The Current Condition of the Abandoned Farm House Near Decatur, Texas

When I stopped by the abandoned farm house, I had finishing exploring the Old Stone Prison in Decatur and I didn’t have the gear for a night exploration. Plus I was wearing business attire and that isn’t the best option for walking through an overgrown field and walking through a dusty abandoned house.

A friend of mine stopped by earlier in the day and said the house is in good condition and interesting. Most of the windows are in place, but the front door is open. Do not make a trip out there just to look at this house, but add it to the list if you have extra time in the area.

If you know the history of this old house or know who to contact, please contact me. Someone did comment over at VanishingTexas.com that this old farm house isn’t that old. It was built sometime in the 1990s and was used a garden nursery. At some point the nursery failed and the house was abandoned.

About the Image

The image was shot by hand with my Sony Nex-3N and a Sony SEL16F28 16mm f/2.8 at dusk. I then edited the image in Adobe Lightroom. Next, I post processed with Topaz Clarity to add texture, brighten, and bring out the details in the image. Then I removed the dust spots. Finally, I used Topaz DeNoise to remove the noise from the image.
