This week’s random image of the week is one of the many fields of hay in Baily, Texas. This particular area has over a hundred acres with more acres in the nearby fields.

Endless Fields of Hay in Baily, Texas

I’ve been driving by these fields for years and all they produce is hay. I have a buddy who has lived down the road from this field and said at one time this field and the surrounding fields were all owned by one family. He said it was 100s of acres but much of it was split up and sold off before he came to the area. One of the Ancestors still lives down the road and still has several hundred acres being farmed. Those fields generally produce corn or wheat each year. My buddy says the corn is tasty and one of the perks of having a neighbor who lets him have a few ears every season.

From what I was told this area was originally cotton fields but eventually, the cotton farming industry in the area dried up and farmers switched to other crops or sold off the land.

This particular field is larger than this picture can show. It stretches to the left for a mile or so. To the right is a Farm-to-Market Road. At the end of the field, you can barely make out an old historic church that was part of a lost community. The church isn’t used anymore and someone recently started renovating it, I think.

About the Image

This image was shot on a sunny afternoon using my Google Pixel 7 Pro. The image was edited on my iPad 10th Gen. I then used Luminar for iPad and Adobe Lightroom Mobile to clean up the image and other items that were in the way.
