Early last fall I was at a local nursery picking up a couple discount plants to fill some holes in a garden bed. While wondering, around the nursery I came across the section full of Mums. This display made me think this would be perfect for a large fall color display in a garden somewhere. I decided to take a few pictures of my favorite colors.

For some, Mums are the perfect plant for fall color in the garden. They are easy to take care of, have a long bloom period, and cover a lot of space if you get the large nursery pot sizes

With that being said, after their four to eight weeks of blooming they are done for the season. You might be able to deadhead them during the growing season and get another around. I was never successful with this.

In my opinion, after they finishing blooming the plant is ugly and it’s time to replace the plants with something colorful that will last through winter or at least the first freeze.

I stopped adding mums to the garden or flowerpots on the property years ago. For me and my wife, it’s a waste of money, we try and put those funds towards other garden projects next spring. Don’t get me wrong, if somewhere to gift some plants we would gladly accept them and use them in the garden. Afterall, they are a beautiful plant when in bloom.’

If you are curious about what we plant on our property, we do a mixture of beneficial plantings, native plants, and flowers for pollinators and hummingbirds. I plan to start sharing more pictures of our plants and flowers. I wrote a few articles with images from our garden and places we’ve traveled over the years.

About The Images

The mums were shot on a warm sunny day inside a greenhouse using my Google Pixel 7 Pro. The images were edited on my iPad 10th Gen. I then used Luminar for iPad and Adobe Lightroom Mobile to clean up the images.
