The Ephesus Primitive Baptist Church in Red Lick Mississippi was first organized in 1893 and was rebuilt in 1961. Today the church is a small rural church with only a handful of families attending services.
Ephesus Primitive Baptist Church in Red Lick, Mississippi – History
I couldn’t find much information about the church. One of my local contacts is a church historian and is currently researching, documenting, and writing a book about the churches in the area.
She mentioned that there have been several different churches over the years and the most current church is the brick one you see in the pictures. However, this isn’t the original location. Its original location is “way back in the woods and is no longer there.
“The second building was a wooden church across the street and down a ways.” It was moved to the road and converted to a house at some point. It eventually burned.

Ephesus Primitive Baptist Church in Red Lick, Mississippi – Current Status
Although the church sign was removed and looks like it may not be an active church its still active and maybe only has a half a dozen families and most are elderly.
The Church building looks to be in good shape and the property is maintained. Cemetery is also maintained and still has plenty of room. Earlier this year someone was buried there.
About the Images
The church and cemetery was shot mid afternoon by hand with my Sony a6000 and the Sony 16-50mm f3.5-5.6 OSS Power Zoom Lens. I then used Adobe Lightroom, and Google Nik Collection to remove noise and clean up the images.
