‘The Four Columns’ Amsterdam Street Organ can be heard throughout Windmill Island Gardens in Holland Michigan. It’s on a schedule and depending on how long you are at the park you will listen to it playing and even have the chance to watch it. During our visit, we showed up just as the show was ending before we realized there was a schedule. I did get some recordings, I think several by accident as I was filming the plants. I thought I had filmed it with my phone, but maybe not. If I find it I will add it here.

The Four Columns’ Amsterdam Street Organ – History

The ‘Four Columns’ (“De Vier Kolommen” (meaning The Four Columns)) was a gift from the City of Amsterdam to the City of Holland, Michigan in 1947 for liberating the Netherlands during World War II.

In 1928, Carl Frei built the street organ in Noord Brabant, the Netherlands. “Four Columns has 69 keys and more than 200 pipes. Plus, it’s beautifully painted.

Here is the pipe in action over at YouTube.

My wife and I were pleasantly surprised to find the pipe organ during our 2024 Michigan road trip. We aren’t big pipe organ fans, but for me, I’m fan its history and importance to the community.

About the Images

The images were shot on a gloomy rainy day using my Google Pixel 7 Pro. The image was edited on my iPad 10th Gen. I then used Luminar for iPad and Adobe Lightroom Mobile to clean up the image.
