In general I love nature and the wildlife the world around us supports. Whenever I get the chance, I love to get out and explore the great outdoors and shoot as many pictures as I can. In addition to shooting that perfect landscape, I love to catch wildlife in its natural habitat. But sometimes that can be hard. Sometimes nothing comes out to greet you and other times it comes out when you aren’t ready for them. Then there are times you have to see wildlife in a protective environment. When it comes to butterflies, its usually easiest to photograph butterflies in a Butterfly Aviary. A few years back during a business trip I was able to visit the Butterfly Palace in Branson, MO to photograph the exotic, rare and local butterflies at the morning feeding.
Butterflies in the Butterfly Palace in Branson, MO
On our property we are planning a butterfly garden because we love having them around us. Even without a garden designed to attract butterflies we get a lot of them through the spring and summer months. But I almost never get the chance to photograph them. Its almost impossible right now to get an up close shot of these beautiful beneficial insects.
To make up for that I try and visit butterfly houses when ever I visit a city with a butterfly house. Some of the best butterfly houses have some of the rarest specimens in the world living along side your local varieties. To me and to others, this is important to keep these guys alive. Butterfly houses provide an environment for butterflies to live without worry of human and predator hurting them. In addition caring for butterflies, the education the public on the importance of butterflies and their role they have in nature.
In order to house these creatures there are strict rules butterfly houses have to follow. The rules are similar to rules and regulations found at a zoo. But these rules and regulations are designed to keep butterflies healthy and happy in their short lifetimes.
The Butterfly Palace in Branson, MO is no different. They follow the strictest rules for caring for their butterflies. By doing this they get to house a large collection of butterflies that are rarely observed in the wild.
About the Images
The images were taken in 2014 with my Sony Nex-3N with the Sony SEL55210mm 4.5-6.3 OSS Lens, then processed with Adobe Lightroom to crop, straightened, and remove dust spots from the images. Then I post processed the images with Topaz Labs Clarity to add more texture, remove shadows, boost brightness and contrast. I then used Topaz DeNoise to remove noise from the images.
