The trail is located near the front entrance office building and there’s small parking area right at the trail head. The trail head has several signs including a trail head sign and informational sign about the trail. You can’t miss it if you are looking for it.
Our Hike
Back in November 2020 my wife and I decided to avoid the Black Friday and crazy sales weekend by opting to be outside and do some hiking at Tyler State Park. The park features a ton of great trails and a lake to explore. The weather was a bit nasty but surprisingly warm for a gloomy and rainy day. I decided to only use my cell phone for taking pictures. I carried my camera but kept it protected from the weather.
To see how the trails were going to be we decided to do a warmup trail and start with the nature trail. From the reviews on AllTrails, hikers are saying it’s a nice trail but it’s easy. The hikers were right it’s an easy trail. But informative.
The trail is a natural surface trail. Depending on the season, its either packed dirt or trampled leaves and pine needles. Throughout your walk you will find trail markers and information signs. The signs have a lot of good information about nature found throughout the park and history about the park. It’s also a narrow trail and barely wide enough for two people to walk together.
Once on the trail the first important feature you will find is the man-made waterfall that was built on the creek. This feature not only adds a fun stop for the kids, but it helps with water erosion.
The trail is maintained and kept clean. I didn’t find any trash on the trail and the bridges were in great shape but could be a little slippery when wet.
As to the terrain, the loop follows the slowly slopping valley down to the bottom and then crosses over the creek and goes back up the other side. The trail doesn’t stay close to the creek but swings out further into the woods and comes back in near the creek at times.
Final Thoughts
Whisper Pines Nature Trail is a nice trail and designed for all skill levels and ages to enjoy. For us, it was a good a good warm up trail and the waterfall. For me, it was the history about the trail and park. We plan to do this trail again. Mostly as a warm up trail. I will add more photos as we make the hike in different seasons and conditions.
Overall Tyler State Park is a great park to visit. If you live within a few hours of the park its worth the drive.
