It doesn’t matter if there’s glass in front of you or you have an open shot.  You also know, that an open shot can be easy but shutting through glass can be tricky. Today, I wanted to share another video from Johnny @ 3 Colors about his tips for shooting through glass windows. I wasn’t planning to share another video this week, but this one popped up in my email and just had to share it. On my next shoot I will be trying some of these tips.

For me, I try and get my lens as close to the glass as I can. If I’ve got a cheap UV filter in my kit and its clean and ready to go, I will slap it on and press the camera lens against the glass once I get my image in focused and framed up (usually the lens is millimeters off the glass.) and take my shot. Keep in mind putting your lens or filter against  the glass could damage them so be very careful when getting that close.

The above image was shot through a grime covered window of an abandoned hotel in Mineral Wells, Texas. The building is mostly locked up so getting a good interior shot have to go through the windows of the first floor lobby and abandoned businesses that were part of the old hotel.
