Traveling for work can be a hassle and it gets worse if you have multiple computers, tablets and cellphones that need access to the internet. It gets even worse when you are at a café, business center, or at the hotel and they limit your access to one device at a time via a WIFI login or only having a single Ethernet port to connect to the public internet. If you only need one device online then its all good but if you need all your devices online then you need a way to share your connection across all your devices. This is where the RavPower FileHub AC750 Wireless Travel Router comes in. Just connect your FileHub to internet source and then connect your devices to the router. Now all your devices have access to the internet and most networks won’t know you multiple devices connected to that single internet connection.

RavPower FileHub AC750 Wireless Travel Router – The Review

RavPower FileHub AC750 Wireless Travel Router - 2019 Version

I picked up the RavPower FileHub AC750 Wireless Travel Router to make things easier on my road trips. My original plan was to start backing up each photo shot or location stop right I finish shooting the location. That means I have to bring my computer and load up. Then connect my computer to the storage hard drive and the SD card, then move the files. With the file hub I can connect the SD card and the hard drive to the file drive and connect my phone to the hub. Once connected, I can use the RavPower App to transfer files over. While the files are transferring I can be driving to my next location. This is a time saver for me. It takes only a few minutes to get everything setup and the backup process started. Where as setting up the computer and connecting everything and then putting everything away could take 30 minutes or more to complete.

First Impressions

RavPower FileHub AC750 Wireless Travel Router - 2019 Version

The FileHub comes nicely packaged with instructions on how to use the device. The device itself looks good and is made well. The case is made of plastic but its tough enough to put in your bag (still recommend getting a small hard case to store it while traveling) and not get damaged. It does scratch pretty easily though.

All the ports are on the sides of the FileHub while the larger ports have rubber covers to protect them from getting debris in them. The positions of the ports are setup in a way that none of them will be blocked by another device while its plugged in.

The Review

For the testing process I tested charge times, charging my Samsung Galaxy Note 8, file transfer between computer and cell phone, backing up SD cards, backing up flash drives, transferring files from SD card to portable hard drive, and connecting multiple devices to the internet.

Charging

RavPower FileHub AC750 Wireless Travel Router - 2019 Version

Charging the RavPower FileHub AC750 Wireless Travel Router is fast. It only takes about an hour or two to charge it to full. I normally never let it get past half charge.  When using the FileHub to charge my phone I found it be great little back up. I get close to two full charges and charge almost as fast most quick charge powerbanks. Honestly, I rarely use the FileHub as a charger. I carry one larger power block to keep my devices charged when I do not have an power outlet. I use smaller powerbanks when hiking and need to charge up my camera batteries or phone.  I prefer to keep the FileHub for file transfer and a way to connect my devices to one network when needed.

File Transfer Between Computer and My Cell Phone

I found that connecting my cell phone and computer to move files around to be easier than connecting the USB-c cable to the computer and using windows to move things around. When logged into the FileHub router system it easy to move files around. Just pick the files and move them. I dragged all my photos off the phone and moved a couple of digital movies that I owned from my computer to the phone. Moving large files does take time. It took about 20 minutes transfer 20 gigs of data over.

Backing Up SD Cards

Another reason I got the FileHub was to be able to backup SD Cards. This feature works and saves a lot of time. All you need to do is plugin the SD card and the USB portable hard drive and power up the FileHub or you can use the back up button on the side of the device. Then from your phone or computer log in to the app use the back feature. Tell it how you want to back and go from there. Once done, check the results. If successful, then you are good to go. Every time I tested this featured it worked. The time it takes to complete depends on the amount of data that needs to be transferred.

Back Up Flash Drives and Cell Phones

This features works just the same as the SD Card back up. Follow the instructions and check for a successful back up. Every time I tested this featured it worked. The time it takes to complete depends on the amount of data that needs to be transferred.

Transferring Files from SD Cards to a Portable Hard Drive

RavPower FileHub AC750 Wireless Travel Router - 2019 Version

Transferring Files from SD Cards to a portable hard drive works by plugging in the SD Card and the portable hard drive into the FileHub and logging into the FileHub from the computer or using the phone app. Inside the FileHub navigate to the SD Card and the files you want transfer. On the portable drive side of the screen select where you want to place the files. You can add, delete, rename, and move files around as needed. When you are ready move the files.  Every time I tested this featured it worked. The time it takes to complete depends on the amount of data that needs to be transferred. As mentioned before I will be using this process when on my photo road trips. If I’m running low on space and don’t have another SD Card handy, I will format the drive after each file transfer. (Only after checking the files are there). if I have plenty of space I will leave the photos on the SD Card and only move the new files after each shoot. Each shoot gets its own child folder (a sub folder within the road trip folder).

Connecting Multiple Devices to the Internet

So far I haven’t had to use this feature but I did test it out a few times at home. Connecting multiple devices to the internet is easy. All you need to do is connect your phone app or computer to the FileHub and select the internet options and follow the prompts. Once connect you should be able to connect all of your devices to the FileHub and have service. I connected two computers, a tablet, and a phone and was able to get service. The service is slightly slower than if you connected directly to the internet and the more data your devices are using the slower it will get. So for me, my main computer was setup for streaming a movie, and the phone was on there to get updates for social media apps, and my other computer was connected so I can check work email and surf the net while streaming. Using my devices this way didn’t slow the connection to much.

Final Thoughts on the RavPower FileHub AC750 Wireless Travel Router

The RavPower FileHub AC750 Wireless Travel Router is packed full of useful features. It has so many features I haven’t been able to test or even use all them as of yet. This is a great device and will make traveling with multiple devices a little easier. The only things I would change on it would be to add a larger battery and offer a hard case with it. These aren’t deal breakers but having to purchase another hard case is an added expense.

I will update this review once I’ve had more time to use this device in the real world. I will also at some point add some app screen shots next time I use FileHub to move some files.

If you are in need of a light weight travel FileHub that can charge your devices and work as router to connect all your devices to the internet at once, then this is the device for you. I highly recommend this hub or one of the other FileHubs from RavPower.

Please Note: In order to use the internet feature on this device you will need to have a WIFI Source or a Cat 5 data port with cable to connect to the internet.
