The Swollen Trinity River at the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge Shot at Night

During 2015  North Texas and most parts of Texas had to deal with a ton of rain in a short period time than it has had in decades. Parts of the Hill Country, Houston, Austin, and DFW were flooded out. The lakes, reservoirs, rivers, and streams are full and looking healthy. Even with all the lose, its great to see Texas out of its decade long drought.

Then in early June I had the chance to visit the swollen Trinity River at the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge to shoot the bridge at night. As you can see, the river is still well above its normal levels even with almost a week without rain. I imagine that in a few weeks, if not sooner, the river will be back to normal.

Night Photography

In 2015 I started working with night photography.  I have tried everything from light painting, full moon photography, to playing with light trails and I have to say I love it.

One of the places I have always wanted to photograph was the Dallas Skyline along the Trinity River and earlier tonight I had that chance. Since my regular camera is down, I borrowed an older Canon EOS Rebel T1i and a kit lens (not the greatest option for night photography.) But it worked out pretty well. I shot a ton of pictures testing different ISO settings, f-stops, and exposure times to find the perfect shot.

Out of the fifty plus shots I took, only seven came..

About the Image

I shot the above image with a Canon EOS Rebel T1i and Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II SLR Lens before midnight. I then processed the image with Adobe Lightroom.
