The Jefferson Rail Road Bridge is the bypassed rail bridge over Big Cypress Bayou in Jefferson. You can see the new bridge that runs right next to the old one and is preserved in place. It sits so close that when the trains passes over the new bridge it looks the train is on the old bridge.
Jefferson Rail Road Bridge – History
The Jefferson Rail Road Bridge was built by the Phoenix Bridge Company in 1897 and is a 5-panel Howe through truss. I couldn’t find the specs on the bridge or abandoned. I will update that information when I find it.
Just a few years ago the city of Jefferson announced plans to preserve the bridge and turn it into another site feature for the city. The plans eventually include turning the bridge into a walking bridge. A donation was made and a park was installed so the bridge can be viewed from the park.
The bridge is in great shape with very little vandalism and it looks like the city is keeping up on maintenance. It may not be able to handle train traffic but one day it will be a good bridge for the park.
About the Images
The images were shot about mid day on a bright and sunny day. I used Sony a6000 using my Sony SELP18105G E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS with my new K&F Concept SA254T1 Camera Tripod. The images were then edited with Adobe Lightroom CC and Topaz Labs A.I. Clear and DXO NIK Collection to clean up the images, remove noise, and recover the lost details.
Wow neat
