Recently one of my neighbors purchased a new Fisker Karma and its first time I have seen one or even heard of one. When I first saw it, I wasn’t even sure what it was. Was it a luxury sedan or a sport sedan? But, it’s sleek, sexy, and looks fast sitting still. Fisker Karma

Fisker Karma

The Fisker Karma is a hybrid luxury sports sedan that is produced at Valment Automotive in Finland.

The EPA rates the gas mileage on this mean looking sedan with a combined city/highway mileage of 52 mpg in all electric mode! But the gas motor gets 20 mpg. The EPA considers this car a subcompact and that’s because of the small cabin space. But when you get up close the car doesn’t look all that small. It might be about as big as an Altima or a Honda Accord. Fisker Karma

Fisker Automotive

Although the car is produced in Finland, the car was created by an American Automaker, Fisker Automotive, in Anaheim, California. The company’s first car is the Fisker Karma.

The company was co-founded by Henrik Fisker and Bernard Koehler after securing investments from a group of investors. Fisker Automative currently has only the Karma as  a production vehicle but, has several concept cars including the Fisker Surf, Sunset, and the Atlantic.

All three concepts look sleek and sexy and from what I could find, the Atlantic might be the next car to be produced by Fisker.

What I like About Fisker Karma

I think this car looks good and I like that you can always plug the car in to charge the batteries. But running on battery power motor’s rage is about 32 to 50 miles. This kind of mileage is great for short trips and daily trips to work if you live within range of a battery charge. If not, you can always fill up on the way home from work. Fisker Karma

And if you aren’t interested in saving gas (or batteries run out), you can always switch to sport mode and use the 260-hp turbocharged 2.0 liter Ecotec gas powered motor to race around town.

Since the first sitting of the Fisker, I have kept a look out for more of these cars and I have seen a few of them on the road or in parking lots. Most of the time, I haven’t got my camera on me so, I haven’t documented these spottings, but I do have a video I took of one speeding off from one of the Cars and Coffee Show. The video is short and it shows just how quiet these cars can be.

This video has spectators using bad language in the background that couldn’t be edited out.
