Abandoned Building South of Stamford, Texas

As you come into town from US-277 you will see a large large one story abandoned building south of Stamford, Texas. Its an interesting old building and been abandoned for years if not decades.

The Condition of the Abandoned Building South of Stamford, Texas

The building is a total lose and is in danger of being torn down by the city or nature will reclaim her in the near future. The roof has collapsed and covers the ground floor. If there were any personal effects of the previous owner left behind, there isn’t any now. Its been picked over, scrapped several times for anything of value, and what wasn’t taken was destroyed when the roof failed. The outer walls, a few inter walls, and what looks to be a chimney are all that is left.

I could not find any information about the building and the few people that knew of the building have said its been that way since before they were born. But knew nothing more.

If anyone has information on this old building, images of the building when it was still active, or who to contact about the building; please comment below, use the contact form on the contact page to tell me what you know about this abandoned building south of Stamford, Texas.

With some help from the local historical museum in Stamford, Texas I have been able to learn that this building was a school for African American students and was called Booker T. Washington School. Over on VanishingTexas.com  (will be added in a few days) I have added that information including images of the last principal, highschool basket ball team taken in the 1940s, and what the school looked like back when it was still a school. About the Images

The images were shot by hand around 11 in the morning with my Sony Nex-3N and Sony SEL16F28 16mm f/2.8. I then edited the images in Adobe Lightroom. Next, I post processed with Topaz Clarity to add texture, brighten, and bring out the details in the images. Then I removed the dust spots. Finally, I used Topaz DeNoise to remove the noise from the images.

  1. My husband said it was the black school. It’s located in part of town that is know as the flats. When he was growing up this was the black part of town and was wall to wall house, and bars, now only a few house remain. It is still called the flats and black are the primary residence that remains in that area. His mother lives across from the “black park”. Not sure what it’s real name is just what everyone cacalls it still.
