On June 19th, 2015 a photographer friend and I went out to Dobson Prairie’s St. Boniface Catholic Church for some Milky Way night photography. On our two and half hour drive out to the little prairie church we made a few stops including the famous abandoned Baker Hotel in Mineral Wells,Texas.
The Abandoned Baker Hotel
The Baker Hotel opened its doors in 1929 in the small town of Mineral Wells, Texas and was one of the more advanced luxury hotels of its time. It became the go-to health spas in the United States. But over the years the hotel’s health benefits became less important and with the nearby Fort Wolters closing the hotel finally shut its doors for the last time in 1972.
For a more complete history of the Baker Hotel, make sure to check out my historical write up I did a few months back.
Currently the Baker Hotel is under new ownership and has done a lot of clean up, added cameras, and boarded up all access to the hotel. Below are some images I took during our visit to the Baker. To see the complete collection pictures of the Baker Hotel I have taken over the last few years, make sure to check out my Flickr album.
About the Images
I shot the images by hand with a Canon EOS Rebel T1i and Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II SLR Lens before midnight. I then processed the image with Adobe Lightroom. I then processed the images with Topaz Clarity.
